【EN】

Most of the porcelain pieces are date-marked 1848, bearing the gilded circular "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" stamp.

The cup and flat saucer are marked 1855, with a blue circular stamp reading "LOUIS PHILIPPE".

Each piece also carries distinct incised marks.

All porcelain items feature gilded chevron-style borders, delicately painted floral garlands, and are mostly highlighted with platinum accents.

This set includes the following items:

  • One teapot with lid

  • One sugar bowl with lid

  • One milk jug

  • One trembleuse saucer

  • One pentagonal tray with gilt-bronze handles

  • One teacup with saucer or small dish

These porcelain pieces are refined decorative wares, typically used for elegant tea or coffee service. They reflect a distinct historical period of mid-19th-century France, spanning the reign of Louis Philippe, the proclamation of the Second French Republic (1848), and the era of Napoleon III.

The floral decorations were meticulously painted by Eugène Richard, a skilled decorator at the Sèvres Manufactory, known for his work on floral motifs, patterns, and other ornamental painting. His contributions helped elevate Sèvres porcelain to its esteemed artistic status, making these works highly desirable for their exquisite craftsmanship.

The inclusion of a pentagonal tray with handles is particularly rare among Sèvres sets, enhancing the uniqueness and collectible value of this ensemble. Sèvres porcelain is renowned for its distinctive artistry and technical refinement, and the presence of such uncommon elements significantly increases both its desirability and market worth among collectors and connoisseurs.

Mille-Cannelures Decoration

The so-called “mille-cannelures” (thousand flutes) technique refers to a decorative approach where vertical, fine ribbed textures—either convex or concave—are applied to the porcelain surface. On this set, the cups display raised fluting, while the saucers are incised. This type of decoration is a classic feature of Sèvres porcelain, often combined with floral painting and gilded detailing, as seen in this set.

Renowned for its high-quality production and delicate surface decoration, mille-cannelures demonstrates the exceptional skill of Sèvres artisans and their precise attention to detail. Porcelain works with this technique are highly valued on the antiques market and are emblematic of the refined tradition of French ceramic art.
